Our restaurant

Da Maro opened after the second world war in Bologna’s University quarter.

It was named after the original owner, Adelmaro.

It has always been part of life in Bologna and beyond, as its clients are offered genuine food, a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome.

In 1996 it was taken over by Gianluca Romano and his uncle Francesco Di Natale from Sicily.

They decided to specialize in fish prepared according to traditional family recipes. After a few years, Gianluca took over the management by himself. Together with his chef Cristian Salas, he refined the menu by adding special Mediterranean flavours to the Sicilian recipes.

The ingredients are essentially “fresh”, and very rarely are frozen products used.

Gianluca the owner sees to the shopping every day and selects produce from various markets, choosing vegetables in season and freshly-caught fish. The desserts, pasta and various types of bread are always prepared in the kitchen by the chef Cristian.

The wines come from a range of Italian cellars and the wine-list includes sparkling white wines, still white wine and solid red wines.

As well as the restaurant, Da Maro offers a Take Away service which can be booked over the phone or directly on the spot. It can also organize Catering services, even for small numbers. There is WIFI access for clients in the restaurant. Reservations can be made by phone or e-mail.

Our staff, both in the kitchen and at the tables, has been selected over the years and is young in age. They are all passionate about their work and can give just the right advice when asked about matching the right wine to the dishes chosen.
